Crow's Feet

Wrinkles that form in the outer corners of the eyes caused by ageing, repetitive facial expressions, sun, and smoking

Crow's Feet

What Are They?

Crow's feet are wrinkles that form in the outer corners of the eyes. They are also known as laugh lines or character lines. Crow's feet are usually more noticeable when a person smiles or squints, and can become more prominent with age as the skin loses elasticity and collagen.

What Causes Them?

Crow's feet are primarily caused by the natural ageing process, during which the skin loses elasticity and collagen, resulting in wrinkles and fine lines. The repetitive facial expressions we make throughout our lives such as smiling, squinting and frowning can also contribute to the development of crow's feet. Other factors that can contribute to the formation of crow's feet include sun exposure, smoking, and environmental pollutants. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can damage the skin and accelerate the ageing process, while smoking and environmental pollutants can also cause oxidative stress and contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. Additionally, genetics can also play a role in the development of crow's feet as some people may be more prone to developing wrinkles and fine lines as they age.

Cosmetic treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels, and  resurfacing treatments can help reduce the appearance of crow's feet.

At what age do crow's feet typically develop?

Crow's feet typically begin to develop in a person's late 20s or early 30s, although their appearance can vary depending on genetics and lifestyle factors.

Our Approach

Causing deep lines around the eyes, crow's feet can often make clients look tired or angry.

At RSA, we have lots of non-injectable solutions to help soften this problematic area. However, due to the amount of movement and expression and, of course, the desired outcome for the client, injectable intervention such as Botox/muscle-relaxing injections are sometimes the only way to temporarily diminish these lines completely.
